PARVAID FRONT PAGE

USING PARVAID

PARVAID is an all-natural product, which may work on microbial infections of the intestinal tract. It may be useful in easing vomiting and diarrhea in animals, especially in cases where the animal has contracted the Parvovirus.

Immune builders, Anti Viral products, antibiotics and other things that may help your puppy overcome Parvo are great but may be difficult for your puppy to digest. Puppies with Parvo are extremely nauseous and dehydrate quickly. It is important to have a continual flow of fluid going through the intestinal tract. Parvaid helps that flow happen. Parvaid calms the stomach, promotes the appetite and allows the fluid to pass into the intestinal tract.

Parvaid is made in an alcohol base in order to get the medicinal properties into the bloodstream quickly. With Parvo there is not much time to treat the disease. Parvaid gets into the bloodstream within seconds and begins to help your puppy overcome the disease.

For the first dose:
Select proper dosage of PARVAID from the chart above. Put only the PARVAID directly into the animals mouth then wait 15 minutes.

Second dose:
Mix the same quantity of PARVAID as first dose with the corresponding quantity of water. Place the PARVAID/water mix directly into the animal’s mouth.

Remaining doses:
Repeat second dose every hour until the animal is eating on its own.

It is very important not to over hydrate your puppy if they have Parvo.  It can put a strain on the heart causing a heart attack.

Vitamin C is a good source to help boost the dog’s immune system.  Give Vitamin C (be sure the label says ascorbic acid) 4 times a day until the puppy is eating on his own.

We highly recommend putting your dog on an antibiotic to prevent secondary infections.  VIBACTRA PLUS is Amber Technology’s antibiotic.  Vibactra Plus works great on viral (and bacterial) infections, Parvo being a viral infection.

Many of our customers want to use their Veterinarian treatment in addition to the Parvaid, so we separated the Parvaid and Vibactra. This allows our customers to make a choice. The antibiotic from the Veterinarian will treat bacterial infections and Parvo is a virus. Even though the antibiotic does not treat the Parvo itself, Parvo will cause secondary infections making it very important for the use of an antibiotic. Vibactra will treat viral and bacterial infections. Using Parvaid and Vibactra will help your puppy calm the stomach and allow for the immune builders in the Parvaid and the Vibactra to pass into the intestinal tract also fighting off the viral and bacterial infections.

Parvaid may be used as a preventative if the animal has been exposed. If Parvaid is introduced before the virus reaches the intestinal tract nine times out of ten Parvaid will help the dog fight off the virus making it look as if Parvo never existed. If the animal has a weak immune system or the strain of the virus is one of the harder strains to fight off then the preventative measures may not work entirely however, the animal will not get as sick as he would have if not given the Parvaid.

A sick animal must be isolated from other dogs.

Preventative use:

If your dog has been exposed to an infected dog give Parvaid 4 times a day for 5 days. If there are other dogs that have had Parvo on the premises recently, continue treating the puppies that have not had Parvo with Parvaid once a day for 6 weeks (the Parvo puppies will shed the virus for 6 weeks). Do a thorough clean then discontinue use.

If bringing dog onto Parvo exposed property wait 3 days then begin to give Parvaid 4 times a day for 5 days.

Vaccinations and wormers have toxins that may weaken the immune system and prevent him or her from recovering from the Parvo.  If your puppy has been wormed or vaccinated 1 week prior to coming down with Parvo:

With Parvo, puppies are having a lot of diarrhea. If your puppy is not having many stools there is a chance he or she may have worms.  It is common for puppies to have Parvo and worms.  Although it may be more difficult to pull a puppy out of the Parvovirus, doing the following may increase its chance of survival.

If your puppy has Parvo and worms you will want to increase the garlic using this tea. This will taint the intestinal tract stopping the worms from attacking (the worms do not like the flavor).

You are making up a separate tea to replace the Pedialyte (give this tea in place of the Pedialyte when giving the Parvaid):

  • 1 cup Pedialyte
  • 2 tea bags herbal Peppermint with Spearmint tea (We recommend Bigelow's Mint Medley but if you can't find Bigelow look for one that has both peppermint and spearmint) DO NOT GET TEA WHICH CONTAINS CAFFEINE.
  • 2 teaspoons garlic.

Heat 1 cup of Pedialyte until hot but do not boil. Add 2 tea bags of mint tea, and 2 Tsp. of fresh garlic.

Stir and let cool for 20 min.

If your dog continues to vomit there are things you can do to help stop the vomiting.

1.      Keep an eye on the puppy’s blood sugar level.  You can rub honey on the gums of the puppy.  If this stops the vomiting then you know the blood sugar level is low and protein is needed.  Puréed liver is easy for dogs to digest and if given with peppermint and spearmint tea or Pepto-Bismol the chances of keeping it down is better.

2.      Dehydration is another cause for vomiting.  If the gums of the puppy turns white or the skin sticks together and does not go back down then the dog is seriously dehydrated.  There are a few things you can do.

a.    Try jump starting the puppy by giving a dose of Pepto-Bismol and Parvaid straight.  Wait 15 min. then give the Parvaid and half the dose of the Pedialyte (or tea if substituting the tea).  Do this every half hour.  When the puppy is able to hold down 2 doses begin giving the regular does every hour as suggested.

b.    Give the Parvaid straight every 15 min. by mouth giving an enema every half hour with the Parvaid and Pedialyte.  After the first hour start giving the Parvaid and half the dose of Pedialyte by mouth every half hour and the enema every hour.  Gradually increase the amount given by mouth until the puppy is able to hold the full dose down without vomiting.  Once the puppy is able to hold down two doses without vomiting, stop the enemas and begin the oral doses every hour.

c.     Take your puppy to the Veterinarian for fluids immediately.

It is very important not to over hydrate your puppy if they have Parvo.  It can put a strain on the heart causing a heart attack.

In cases of severe dehydration oral doses may not be enough.  You can get more fluids into your dog by giving a retaining enema.

For a puppy or small dog use a syringe. For a medium to large dog use an infant enema bottle. Lube the tip with KY jelly or Vaseline.

Fill the syringe/bottle with Pedialyte and PARVAID drops according to size.

Place the dog in the tub or on a towel and administer the solution slowly.

Hold the buttocks together for at least two minutes.

Release the buttocks and let the water out.

There may or may not be much water released from the dog. The colon may absorb all of it so don't worry if it does. You may have to repeat this in another two hours if there is not much improvement.

3 Worms can also cause the puppy to vomit.  If you suspect your puppy has worms, refer to the section of this page that talks about treating your puppy for worms.

What to feed your dog once he or she recovers - As with any gastro-intestinal disease first foods should be bland and easy to digest. We suggest you start with bullion or puréed liver first then go to baby food, such as rice and lamb or rice and beef. Try to get your vet to prescribe Hills Farm prescription diet, especially for dogs with intestinal illnesses.  Keep in mind the intestinal tract is raw and hard, dry dog food is hard on the intestines.  It may cause intestinal cramping.

For clean up of your yard you will want to use 1 part bleach to 30 parts water and spray your yard completely.

For the in the home I found a company called:

Animal Health
800-424-7536
www.htproducts.net

They have a product safe for your furniture and carpet that will kill the Parvovirus. They are the most reasonable priced company I have found.

Keep in mind that your puppy will continue to shed the virus for 2 weeks (some vets say up to 6 weeks) even after your dog has recovered. So, you will want to quarantine your home and yourself from other puppies for the next 6 weeks, then do a thorough cleaning

Parvaid contains:
· Peppermint
- Helps calm an upset stomach.
· Spearmint - Helps calm an upset stomach.
· Chamomile - It is used to prevent cramping and to calm the nerves.
